I wouldn't say it's a really good bottle cage, but it's kind of a bottle cage. I was able to fit in my clean 40 ounce bottle and then a standard sized bottle. A large bottle definitely pushes the limits of what you have to do with it as the base barely fits. The standard size bottle is not particularly tight. However, I recently had a very bumpy ride through dirt and gravel and my bottle stayed perfectly in the cage. I haven't tested the larger bottle in these conditions yet, but I suspect it will work well too. I have one of these http://www.topeak.com/products/Bottle-Cages/ModulaCageXL which I have used extensively for highway and city driving. In my humble opinion this is the best solution for larger bottles like the 40oz Kanteen. It also works great with wine bottles (a big plus) and plastic water bottles if you're desperate.
