I think it shaves closer than the original blades that came with the razor. You can't go wrong with this. I bought two more to have on hand. March 25, 2020 EDIT: Don't pry the center blade. It is not liable. Instead, to clean, run all five heads under hot water while you shave. Then open the four angle heads and rinse out the residue. This is the best way I've found to clean razors. The middle knife does not have to be removed either.
