Unsafe Metal: Cages and Accessories

Zinc is dangerous to birds and I realize the manufacturers either don't know or don't understand that zinc poisoning can be fatal. Links, wire and some bells are galvanized. The rope in the star toy can easily snag a bird's foot, and if a parrot is caught in a trap, it can gnaw off its toes to free itself. Any hoop large enough for the bird to put its head through must also be large enough for its body or the bird may panic and injure itself. Unfortunately, these cute bird toys are not as safe as they claim.
