BUYER ALERT: Display stopped working after 6 months, seller refuses to help

BUYER ALERT! When I decided to get a refurbished computer, I knew I was taking a risk, but I never expected it. When I received this MacBook Air, I was surprised that it was a model that Apple stopped making in 2017 because the title said "Latest Version". I emailed the seller and they said Revain put this in the header and said I could return it. I work full time, I'm in graduate school, I have three children. I figured that since it's Apple, finishing school would be enough for me, so I didn't. Now, six months later, the screen won't turn on. He's all black. I can connect an external monitor and use the computer like that, so I know it's a display. After trying to adjust the brightness, a few resets, resetting the SMC and PRAM, I called Apple Support. They ruled out any software issues and told me it must be hardware. At that point I contacted the seller and they basically said to me "sorry this is outside the 90 day window so there is nothing we will do for you." I reached out to Revane and tried to find a solution. They just confirmed that they don't want to do anything for me. Nor are they doing anything to punish the All Out Apple salesman. I am shocked by Revane. There will always be shady sellers like All Out Apple, but I actually found Revain to be better than Ebay in this regard. Lesson learned. There's no reason why a MacBook Air should have a display that fails completely, even after repairing it after six months of use. I'm grateful I had a work monitor that I could hook up for schoolwork, but if I was aiming to be tied to my desktop, I'd buy a Mac Mini.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Expensive insurance
