I read all the reviews as did you. I will not repeat much of what has already been mentioned. I bought it to locate and sniff out small gas leaks in my 70 year old house. These were leaks that I could barely smell, except to "occasionally" catch a faint whiff of gas in the basement air. So far all the leaks I've found have been due to the drying out of the pipe threads causing these tiny leaks. Looking back, the bubbles couldn't find any of them. and I felt that many of them were delayed, maybe by decades. Some of these are around old check valves where the stem seal dries out. This device is very sensitive and only needs to be near the leak for a few seconds. It accurately and quickly identifies these problems and is almost too sensitive to errors. Although it also detects sewage gas that accumulates at a low point, the gas tends to become airborne and float upwards. I'm not sure how the added "smell" (mercaptan) increases the molecular weight and thereby pushes the gas deeper into space. Despite this, the sensitivity of this device is five stars. What urgently needs to be repaired is the calibration wheel, which already rotates 75% when zeroing in the fresh air. Leave just 25% on the dial to set the amount of gas you wish to classify as dangerous and need immediate attention. The device doesn't display percentages or concentration levels, so what the battery-draining LEDs and buzzers are trying to tell you is a blind guess. Obviously this alerts you to the presence of natural gas, which is a good thing. However, when zeroing in fresh air, there is very little space on the calibration scale for the actual calibration. A light touch on the handlebars will overload him WHEN OUTSIDE in the fresh air. This is a deficiency that needs to be fixed. The battery cover also needs some work as it often takes a circus to remove it. If the incessant buzzing doesn't drive you crazy, then 10-12 minutes of battery life will drive you crazy. This thing runs on AAA batteries and it takes three at a time to function properly. I cannot check the efficiency of the device when the low battery indicator is on. It will still work and detect, but I can't speak to accuracy at this time. After 10 weeks of pretty decent use. maybe a total of 5 hours the device shows signs of failure. He began making false statements regularly. His tone changed, and that tone often became shaky and uncertain, and I began to lose confidence. I still have some interior walls to snoop around on and need to buy a higher quality unit to complete my project. For this reason. Loss of feeling after 5 hours. I gave the device 3 stars. Finally. If you only use this thing for 5 minutes once a month I think it represents good value for the average homeowner. However, if you are drilling through walls and ceilings and running gas lines through your structure, I would start with one of the more professional models available online.
