Review on Dorman 614-700 CV Joint Boot Kit for Specific Vehicle Models by Malik Munns

Glue the two halves together to hold the moving part. Bad idea!

I have a 1997 Camry that I use as a car when my other car is in the shop. It was gifted from my son-in-law, the car has one owner so I decided to take it. When I replaced the driver's side ABS sensor, I noticed grease all over the suspension. The trunk of the CV was severely torn. I don't want to invest in a 24 year old car. I was hoping to replace the axle, I did the right thing but I have no noise. I looked at the boots' resume and saw this part. All videos viewed before purchase. For me the biggest problem with this boot is gluing the two halves together and it's two pieces to begin with. Everything went smoothly until the first half was glued. To achieve a snug fit, you need to pinch the narrower side of the boot to hold it in place. When I did that, the other party wanted to follow me, which in my case resulted in the glue getting into the other half of the boot. Yes, I panicked peering over the side I didn't want to glue. Luckily, I managed to separate it, but when I did, the other side came loose from my sip. Why not style like others I've seen, but they don't fit my car, with a link when on axle. I've also seen some screwed together. For me it's a much stronger bond. Glue temperature can be an issue during curing, and grease contact does not cause the grease to stick. Also, the likelihood of the worm drive fork coming loose on this boot is pretty much inevitable. Fit, crop is ok but hold them together with glue and a two piece design I think. Fail! The concept is good but the design is bad. Update: The boot has held up and hasn't leaked any lube yet so I gave it an extra star for that reason alone. I added a black spacer above the glue line to seal even better. The worm wheel clamps broke after a few hundred kilometers of driving. I will supply an additional Tite-Lock collar. Still need the changes I mentioned and this would be a great do-it-yourself solution. Update: Clamp in castellated nut included in my application. I had to replace it with a screw terminal.
