Review on ๐Ÿ  Remington Solar 20-Watt Black Solar Attic Fan with Thermostat & Humidistat - Weather Resistant Vent Fan for Homes by Jason Wesley

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not a good first impression: the 1st unit was damaged on arrival and the 2nd unit was poorly assembled.

The first was damaged, creased in the middle and has been replaced. The replacement wasn't damaged, but when I cut open the bottom of the box to lift the box, a ton of gear fell onto the garage floor, strewn everywhere. I spent at least an hour looking for all the hardware and looking at all the nuts and bolts, at least 90% of which were loose or barely held. The fan was also barely screwed on, I've never seen such a lack of effort in assembling a product with little or no quality control, definitely not sure if this is a quality product. Please do yourself a favor and CHECK ALL BOLTS and NUTS before installation! Installation was easy but I wish the solar panel could be rotated rather than fixed. The angle can be changed, but that didn't help much as I had to look in a specific direction. Because it's square and can't rotate, you're at the mercy of your roof. In my situation I had to face it southwest to be more effective, but it can only face south or west. A custom plain metal plate can easily be oriented in any direction, but I don't know if that will void my warranty or not, so I decided to leave it for now and see how it works. Currently it seems to be working fine with no other issues in the attic of my two car garage and it really seems to be making a difference, at least in terms of air movement. While the October install doesn't say much, time will tell when summer hits again and we'll see if it actually keeps the attic cooler.
