Review on πŸ“± Arkon Heavy Duty Tablet Clamp Mount for iPad Air, iPad Pro, iPad 4, 3, 2 - Retail Black by Calvin Hodges

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Poorly adjustable grip clamp(s) that loosen with use.

Great stand! Durable and well made. The plastic head hinge, just behind the retaining plate, wobbles as several people have noticed. A rubber O-ring solves this problem. Such a little thing I couldn't see to bring down the stars. Arkon should take a look and put an O-ring in it. The stand is very well made, nice and clean and looks very good. All ports and fittings are metal except for the retaining plate and the plastic interface (where I had to install an O-ring). The connections feel solid, but you still have to pull yourself up a bit to support the tablet's weight, but after that it does its job well. For now I have no hesitation in recommending this stand and I would buy it again if I ever need another. TO EDIT. Well I have to change this rating from 5 to 3 stars. The top adjustable handle clip came loose in less than a week of use. It was great at first, but not so much now. The clamping thread is made of aluminum and the bolt is made of steel. Due to the weight of the tablet, the clamp must be tightened to reduce play/movement. You will need to contact the manufacturer to find out what protections, if any, they can provide. This is a sad case as the design and finish (except for the clips) are very nice. Will update again after consultation with the manufacturer. TO UPDATE. The manufacturer does not replace the quick-release clip with the removed part, but with a small clip that is used next to the tablet holder. I also thought the bad clamp had aluminum threads, but they are actually steel. And they are still undressed! I ended up buying new McMaster-Carr clamps with stainless steel inserts. MUCH BETTER QUALITY! The clamping thread is M6 x 1 metric thread, part number 60655K923. They cost $10.76 each. It should also be noted that the insert of the MC clips is made entirely of stainless steel. these are not just threads, but the whole body in which the threads are located. The handle itself is made of and similar to zinc, albeit slightly shorter and thinner than the original Arkon. I'm taking this rating down to 2 stars because the manufacturer doesn't endorse their product. It is sad that they do not offer a satisfactory solution and will not replace a bad clamp with another stronger clamp. I'm sure they have something! You must know that this is a problem. if they don't deny it! I almost bought a few more items in Arkona but removed them from my cart! I will not deal with this type of support again! If you plan to buy this, be aware that the adjustable handle clips will break!
