We have tons of diapers and we've tried tons of diapers over the past few years. Brands and prices from high to low. This set is probably the roughest I've ever come across. Yes, it's typical for them to feel transparent or rough to the touch before they're washed and softened, but they're more than that. They soften a bit, but not like other muslin diapers. As if the fabric had become thicker or stiffer. I'm not sure how to describe it. But if you've used other fabrics and know that different grades of muslin feel different, it's easy to see that it's just... different. and not in a good way. Here we've gone through the swaddling phase, but the little boy is using it as a love or protection blanket. He chews or sucks on the corner when going to bed or consoling himself. We buy (or sometimes get from Vine for review) so much because after a while even bleach doesn't do much to keep those corners looking clean or safe for human use, and I just like to always have enough clean ones on hand. I mean it's rude. he chews or sucks on a corner and then gets up and walks around stepping on the wet blanket or dragging it across the floor and it gets dirty and dirty. So I always pick them up and throw them in a basket and then get him a clean one. Bleach is a must, and muslin blankets generally hold up to heavy washing and bleaching, so that's a good thing. Tell him he doesn't prefer those blankets. I suspect it's the general texture and thickness. He uses them but I saw him looking for another one instead of this one and the first time I gave him one he put it in his mouth and then pulled it out and looked at it kinda weird. While I don't necessarily recommend these, they hold up to many washes with bleach on a warm or hot cycle, they feel like a durable fabric/fabric, and they stay in place when changed like diapers. It really depends on your needs and preferences.
