A month ago I bought a Monoprice 10594 pen tablet as my first pen tablet for use in Adobe Flash and Gimp. For those used to creating digital art with a mouse, this tablet is definitely a worthy upgrade to make the transition to tablet use. I can't say anything about the durability of the product yet, but I can share my first impressions of the functions. 10594 is an upgraded Huion H610 Pro with a slightly lower price. The drawing area is a good size for fine detail work without having to zoom in and out frequently. The surface texture is a smooth, matte plastic that feels like a pattern on cardboard. The 10594 pen has hover detection of about an inch. This can seem tricky and quite finicky at first without a bit of practice to get used to moving the pen in and out of the artboard; although this is likely to be an issue when moving to any graphics tablet. With 2,048 adjustable levels of pressure sensitivity, this tablet lets you dial in exactly the pressure you want. Sixteen programmable function keys come in handy for quick tool changes, while eight main tool keys are customizable for Adobe software; All buttons can be set up for custom macros in Huion driver software. One problem this tablet has right away is that the drivers that come with it don't work in applications and show up in Gimp as a single tool rather than Flash Animator. It works on the Windows desktop due to the built-in Windows mouse emulation. These issues can be resolved by installing the H610 drivers from Huion's website, which will correctly recognize the tablet as multiple tools in drawing applications and remap the function keys. cost twice as much. While it doesn't have all the features, like pen tilt, of more expensive big brands, it makes it a good tablet to get used to graphics tablets and decide if they suit your art style before shelling out money for a more expensive model. All in all, the 10594 is a good entry-level tablet and performs well when set up properly. It's important to spend some time experimenting with the sensitivity settings to tweak the feel to your liking, rather than going with the default configuration. I would definitely recommend this tablet to anyone interested in making the transition from drawing with a mouse to using a tablet due to the easy setup and low price.
