Review on Platypod Ultra: Compact Flat Tripod for DSLR, Mirrorless, and Compact Cameras by Huntsville Rawson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Stupid high metal plate with holes.

The Platypod Ultra comes in great packaging that will make you forget you just spent $60 on a little tin with holes. It includes a set of sharp spiked feet with locking nuts and wobbly rubber feet on opposite ends. The spikes are too sharp to stay attached to the platypod and slip into a camera bag, and once removed they won't fit in the included nylon pouch unless you screw the locking nuts all the way down to the rubber feet. Switching the platypod on and off and unnecessarily slow stacking. If you use rubber feet instead of spikes, the spiked ends will stick out of the platypod like panja sticks, waiting to pierce your arm or camera. The best thing about the Platypod Ultra is the 3D party supplies that Platypod recommended I buy. use him. The proposed small Benro single action ball head with Swiss Arca quick release mechanism is excellent. And the L-plate, which I had to buy for vertical (portrait) shooting, turned out to be great. The total cost of the Platypod is $120, or as much as a real full-featured travel tripod (like the MeFOTO Backpacker), which is more than just a small piece of metal with holes and screws for the legs. Platypod used successfully. The spiked feet were secure but too dangerous to use on many surfaces and the rubber feet were unstable. So I used brass button head screws from the hardware store instead. And I only use three of them as tripods, not four as chairs - there's an extra threaded hole for that. There's a reason we use tripods instead of quads. With three legs, you never have to adjust one up or down to keep the tripod from wobbling. If you use four legs on your platypod you will need to adjust the height of at least one leg *every time* you use it on a different surface or it will rock like a table needing a leg pad. Platypod is stronger than my Joby. tripods. With Joby tripods, if **one** of the multiple links in the legs is loose, you're SOL when shooting momentary shots. However, the Joby tripods pack better than the Platypod with its sharp spikes. With short brass foot screws, the platypod packs better, but still has an awkward shape.
