Genuine camera and photo shop

I've always had trouble getting down to the floor to take photos of my young grandkids, so I decided to give the Platypod Ultra a try. I bought a new small ball head but found my Joby's head to work great. My goal was to get something that was easy to transport and set up. While I haven't fired the Ultra yet due to the COVID-19 situation, I look forward to using it soon. I switched from Nikon to Fujifilm a few years ago and I think the Ultra is perfect for my use.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Good but far from perfect

I just got it and haven't really used it yet but I can already see some downsides. The supplied strap is too short. Not suitable for an easily accessible telephone pole or most street lamp poles. If you need rubber feet, the pointed end of the screws will pierce or tear your hands when adjusting the ball head if you are not careful. Perhaps the underside of the plate should be covered with silicone or a rubberized material so that legs are not always needed on the piece of furniture. Well made…

  • Always liked it

  • Anything to add

A very useful tool in the "Camera and photo " section

I've wanted to buy a Platypod Ultra for a long time, but I had my doubts about using it. It was fun to use and useful for taking pictures I wouldn't take otherwise. In just a few weeks since I got it there have been a couple of situations where I've had the really low angle I was looking for and haven't gotten until now. I've used it in the high school gym to get a fresh look at basketball games and at the beach to prop my camera up on rocks for a lower perspective at sunsets. I like that it…

Camera support if you didn't think you would need it.

The best camera mount is the one you have with you when you need it! And it's a product that I always carry with me as it doesn't take up space in my camera bag. I've used it more often than I thought because I never would have considered carrying a tripod in situations where it turned out to be better if you did. And voila, Platyod comes out. I've also used it to attach a small LED light to it and install it in places you wouldn't install lights. It's very mysterious and many people don't even

Stupid high metal plate with holes.

The Platypod Ultra comes in great packaging that will make you forget you just spent $60 on a little tin with holes. It includes a set of sharp spiked feet with locking nuts and wobbly rubber feet on opposite ends. The spikes are too sharp to stay attached to the platypod and slip into a camera bag, and once removed they won't fit in the included nylon pouch unless you screw the locking nuts all the way down to the rubber feet. Switching the platypod on and off and unnecessarily slow stacking…
