Review on πŸ“· Fujifilm XF 90mm F2 R LM WR Lens by Anne Wilson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Poor results at a price that is hard to swallow

I was glad to buy this lens after reading some positive reviews. I've had mixed results with Fuji XF lenses ranging from 5 stars (50-140 f/2.8) to 2 stars (16mm f/2.8). Most of them seem to fall into the 4 star range and I would be happy if they did. Instead, I should condescendingly give it 3 stars. First - Good: - Very well built. Unfortunately I think it will last a very long time. - It's quite compact for a 90mm lens, making it easy to carry around. - Out-of-focus areas are not disturbing, as is the case with some Fujinon lenses. - Auto focus is fast and accurate in auto focus. -S mode on my X-T3.- Looks good for video although it has an odd focal length. Second of the minuses: - Terrible feeling of the focus ring. Fuji is known for being bad here, but this is the next level of horror. Image quality is mediocre, with poor color gradation and very little contrast. Very disappointed with it. You can usually fix them in CaptureOne, but good exposure is required to get a good result. As with the entire Fuji system, stabilization should take place here. Especially on a wide angle TV. Getting a sharp picture is difficult. Even on a tripod, this lens does not deliver super sharpness. Being a portrait lens, this is unforgivable. I usually rent it out before buying it and regret not having done so with this lens. I make money from photography and don't see a return on investment here. That might be fine for the average shooter with a steady hand, but not at this price point.
