Conductivity versus TDS This meter uses a fixed 2:1 math equation.

While most handheld meters use the conductivity measurement (microsiemens per centimeter) to calculate Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), most mid-range meters use an algorithm specific to the components present in the water . The equation or ratio can vary widely from 0.55 to 0.80. This meter uses a fixed equation of 0.50 regardless of contamination in the sample water; The presence of organic, metallic or mineral elements in the water creates a large variable in the calculation of TDS. The relationship between TDS and the electrical conductivity of water can be approximated by the following equation: TDS = keEC where TDS is expressed in mg/L and EC is an electrical quantity. Conductivity in microSiemens per centimeter (µS/cm) at 25 °C. For example, the correlation coefficient ke ranges from 0.55 to 0.8. 150ppm TDS = 300µS/cm
