Use wood glue! Throw away the equipment.
After reading several reviews on this product that stated this hardware splits wood, I tried wood glue. I had no idea if that would work. I laid all the pieces together, glued them together and left the whole piece on its side under the (slightly) heavier illustrated books for about 24 hours. And now, after about two months, Beas seems to be as good as ever! I highly recommend using wood glue instead of this hardware for this item!
