Two working keys required for independent operation.
You must already have two keys before you can program this key yourself. (Then you have three keys.) I have a 2008 Lincoln MKX. I lost one of the two keys. I figured I'd try it myself with my only remaining key. I managed to lock and unlock the car but wouldn't start it. I went to the Lincoln dealer and they programmed it for $72. I had already had a locksmith cut out the key. ($2.00) Key locks, unlocks and starts now. The trunk lift button did not work. The key is much lighter than the original.
