Review on πŸͺ’ Unboxed Philips Norelco 5150 Shaver S5074 Series 5000 - Wet & Dry Electric Shaver by Christina Xiong

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The Philips Series 5000 shaver is a good buy!

I bought this razor from a local shop because I didn't want to wait for it to be delivered to me. Sometime before 2005 I got a Philips triple head shaver and it has served me very well. And when he died it wasn't the motor or the battery, just the little metal plate connecting the head to the body eventually came off and it was time to buy another razor. Reading the reviews made me think about buying an affordable (for me) Philips shaver as there seems to be so many negative reviews. But I decided to buy a 5000 series shaver with the idea that if it didn't work for me I could return it. I've been using the shaver for over three weeks now and I can say that I think it's a very good shaver. I charged the battery before use and haven't had to charge it yet and I usually take my time shaving (I'm retired and don't have to go to work!). I charged it once a month on my old razor and I seem to do the same with the 5000 series razor. After the break-in period I shave cleanly, better than my old razor, although I change blades occasionally. I 'dry' shave after applying Mennen electric pre-shave lotion. The ability to remove the cutting head for underwater cleaning is very practical. I don't do this every day as I brush away the accumulated stubble. I wash it thoroughly about once a week and regularly take the cutting deck apart and clean it more thoroughly. I have what could be described as a moderate beard ie. I have to shave daily and have a "5 o'clock shadow" towards the end of the day. The floating head is an improvement over my antique model which had the cutting head built into the handle. Having to remove the head to attach the sideburn trimmer is a little awkward, but I think the trimmer works better on a new razor than an antique one. Verdict: This is a great little razor in the $70 range and worth a try before spending more money on premium razors. With a return policy, Revain is worth a try and if it doesn't work for you, return it! I'm surprised at the comments about the poor battery life. Be sure to fully charge the battery before using the shaver.
