Overall great product

I've been using this product for a little over a week now and I'm very satisfied. Now let's move on to the full review: The Good: 1. The collar is advertised as waterproof which is a huge plus considering I'm from New England where it's been very humid for about 2/3 of the year ! Unfortunately I haven't really tested the manufacturer's "water resistance" claim other than to use it in light rain, but so far so good. Aside from my dog Henry jumping in the pool with the collar on, I'm not sure I really want to know if it's actually waterproof, it's just that bad! Rschunimagu. But I'm sure it will probably work well since the charging port and pairing button port are covered with rubber plugs as you can see in the photos in this review.2. The product is advertised with a range of 300 meters which is great! Good to know there is enough stock when I need it! 3. The blue glowing display is very easy to read and straightforward. The remote control is very convenient and intuitive. Once you read the instructions for use, you will never forget it. It's just super easy! However, I recommend anyone new to shock collar purchases and/or first time dog owners read ALL the instructions as there are some good (and fairly simple) training tips that will not help dog owners without abusing such a device which could do your pet more harm than good if you don't know what you are doing. So please anyone new to this PLEASE PLEASE read how to properly use and train your pet with this type of product. This is NOT something you want to be very casual with.4. The nylon collar appears to be of relatively good quality and construction. The only thing that bothers me is the plastic cap. Quite small for the intended size of the dog, this collar is designed for training purposes. My yellow lab, Henry, weighs 75 pounds and if he starts pulling on the leash I worry that the clasp might eventually fail. The device is equipped with a number of useful features including: Key fob light for locating your car keys at night etc. Red light beacon mode which causes the collar receiver to flash red to locate your dog in poor light conditions. There is also a beep mode that allows the user to track their dog's location using sounds. And finally, you have both a vibration correction mode and a static shock correction mode. In my personal experience, vibrate mode seems to be perfectly adequate 99.9% of the time. I try to avoid using static electricity as much as possible because honestly, if it's not necessary and the vibrate mode works instead, there's no reason to make my pet uncomfortable. After all, the whole point of this collar is to train your pet, not as a tool of punishment. Both vibration mode and static shock mode have an adjustable intensity from 0 to 100. Adjustable intensity is always good because you can use the SMALLEST intensity needed to correct the behavior. Again, the goal is to educate and encourage compliance, not punish it. The unit also comes with a second set of spare collar posts in case the standard collars become damaged, too dirty or something else. I definitely recommend using some rubbing alcohol and a cloth to wipe the 2 metal pins regularly to keep them clean and also to keep your dog hygienic. Overall a great product so far and for $35 I would definitely recommend it. Everyone. Now for the bad: Bad: 1. Although both the charging port and the device pairing port have rubber plugs, unfortunately these are on the side of the collar under the nylon collar. This results in the user having to constantly remove the collar from the device to access the charging port, which is quite annoying and just a lack of poor design in my opinion. I understand the intent was to keep the charging port and pairing port away from anything that would prevent the rubber plugs from protecting the ports from water, but still. It's quite annoying to keep removing the collar from the device to charge it.2. While the remote works great, it's not built to last. To be honest if this fell out of my bag onto the pavement I think it would shatter. The bottom line is that this remote control is NOT shockproof.3. As mentioned, despite the fact that the collar is made from a suitable high quality nylon material, I have serious doubts as to how long the plastic clasp will last before failing. When it comes to electronics, I'm all for durability. I use flashlights all the time and would rather spend my money on a good rechargeable flashlight like Olight, Surefire, Streamlight etc and it will please me to know that not only is the device rechargeable but when the battery finally dies I can do it on my own buy more and again will be fine for quite a while. Unfortunately, this is not the case with this device. Neither the collar nor the remote control are designed to replace the battery. This means once the collar or remote stops charging, you'll either have to try to contact the company and send the product in for service (for the price I'm sure!) or just buy a different product. I'm not interested in this type of design. I would prefer this product to use regular lithium ion battery so this product will last indefinitely. The horn mode is not powerful enough to hear your dog from about 30 feet away. Also, you will probably not be able to hear the beeps anymore. While this is a good idea, it clearly lacks execution, and unfortunately this mode has VERY limited utility. While the adjustable intensity is great for both vibration mode and static shock mode, the ability to set the intensity in literally "1" increments from 0 to 100 is AWESOME. Being able to go from 39 to 40 to 41 and so on to 100 is just ridiculous. It is not necessary to have 100 intensity options. It would be more convenient to increase the intensity reading in increments of 10 rather than in increments of 1 on a scale of 0 to 100. That's just stupid.7. Finally, the mode of the flashing red beacon on the collar is not very bright and does not stand out at all. In fact, unless it's almost pitch black, you probably won't see it at all. You can see the red light in the picture I took with the remote control next to the collar. Ultimately, I want to see a much brighter light that will draw the user's attention from a distance. After all, this mode should allow the owner to find their pet at night. Verdict: While some features are either impractical or even poorly implemented in some cases, the device does a great job where it's needed most. And while the non-replaceable battery design and drop-proof remote control are definitely a hit in the overall design of this product, it's still a great product at only $35 and will surely achieve your goal of training your beloved dogs! Recommended.****UPDATE 5/4/2017**** I've only been using this product for a few weeks and the D-ring where you attach the leash is broken. To my complete surprise, this D-ring is made of plastic, NOT steel! Completely unacceptable. Obviously, the electronic part of this collar is designed for larger dogs and the instructions accompanying the product expressly instruct the user not to use any other collar with metal parts when using this electronic collar. How this company decided it was a good idea to make the D-ring out of plastic instead of steel I don't understand. I am very unhappy and just so thankful my dog wasn't standing next to a busy road when this collar broke! I also went to my local pet store to inquire about another identically sized collar to replace the one that came with the product and this collar seems to fall somewhere between a small dog collar and a typical large collar. So no luck finding a replacement collar with a CORRECTLY designed D-ring to attach to my leash. I will definitely contact the company about this. An update will follow as soon as I find a solution. For this reason I am changing my rating from 5 to 3 stars. After all, this is a "training collar" and making such an important part of the collar as the D-ring you attach the leash to out of plastic is just idiotic! BUYER BEWARE! UPDATE: 5/8/2017 I contacted iTronics through Revain and they explained that users are not advised to connect a leash to an e-collar as this would put undue pressure on the electronic contacts. Instead, they recommend using an optional (non-metallic) collar if you want your dog to be off-leash when wearing an e-collar. iTronics was willing to ship a new collar for free. Very good customer service. I am changing this rating to 4 stars due to customer service.
