Review on G Technology G DRIVE USB C External 0G05666 by Quinton Dawon

A little bit like it used to be

If you've had a WD Elements USB drive before, you know what it's like. The G-Tech 4TB is about the same size and shape as the old Elements drive, but weighs even more. G-Tech is made from durable, sandblasted aluminum. There is a white "G" logo on the front that also doubles as a power and activity indicator. Inside is a NAS class "RED" drive from Western Digital (WDC WD40EMRX-82UZ0N0). The drive has two small FAT 32 partitions and one macOS-compatible HFS partition of just over 3.5TB. Windows users are recommended to install the Paragon HFS driver to access the storage partition or reformat the drive to NTFS (see README.txt for instructions). I avoided the whole problem by reformatting the whole drive with GPT and BTRFS. This gave me 4TB of storage for my Linux server. You will receive two USB "C" cables. A USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB 3 cable. Also included is a 19VDC 3.42A power supply similar to a laptop power supply. This is a full-size 3.5" drive and requires the power adapter to be plugged into a standard 115-120V AC outlet. There are no space, weight or power savings here. Robust and reliable hard drive. I haven't tested the transfer speed yet, but I assume it's good.

Pros
  • That's amazing
Cons
  • I won't say anything
