Review on Canon EF-S 10-18mm IS STM Lens: Exceptional Wide-Angle Performance and Image Stabilization by Virot Reangtong ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

One of the best deals, glad I bought this.

Initially, I chose for a very long time between this model, Canon 10-22 USM and Sigma 10-20. After a careful comparison, I realized that I definitely win 10-18. There are many reasons for this. 1 - Price, this is the cheapest lens of the above. 2 - Stabilizer, which increases the range of use and shooting conditions. (10-22 USM and 10-20 Sigma do not have a stabilizer). 3 - Chromatic aberrations are an order of magnitude smaller than those of competitors, the picture is sharper. I would be very disappointed having spent an order of magnitude more for a competitor if I saw a picture that was much worse. 4 - Assembly materials are both pluses and minuses at the same time. On the one hand, a plastic lens is easier to kill than a metal one. And it doesn't look that solid. On the other hand, when traveling and traveling, you will be insanely happy with the low weight of this lens, while competitors are not only many times heavier in weight, but also have a much larger lens size. With this one, everything is much simpler, 67mm filters are relatively cheap, and they will fit into any bag without problems. Conclusion: Agree with other reviews. Do not look at the fact that the lens looks like a slightly swollen whaler. The main thing in it is the filling. The lens is very nimble, sharp and practical, light weight will not give you trouble and, thanks to its price, outperforms competitors in all respects. Despite the low aperture, it allows you to take pictures in various dark conditions with your hand due to the stabilizer and well-set settings in the carcass. Ideal for landscapes, indoors and narrow streets.

Pros
  • 1 - Price. 2 - Sharp, pleasing shots. 3 - Stabilizer. 4 - Weight. Practical. Very convenient to carry. 5 - Focal length. Now you can capture almost everything in the lens, while the distortion is not very spherical like the FishEye, due to which the use of the lens is wider than with conventional fisheyes.
Cons
  • 1 - Plastic construction and bayonet. 2 - Aperture 4.5-5.6. If it were 3.5 or better, the lens would have been larger in size and the price tag would have been an order of magnitude higher. 3 - Slight vignetting at full aperture. 4 - Catches "bunnies". I highly recommend buying a UV filter and an EW-73C hood. (Not a drawback, but rather a logical consequence of such a lens)

Has some pros Great wide angle lens for the price. Yes, and a stub. Has some cons Sometimes loses sharpness. Everything else is the usual bonus to the widths.

ok for landscape photography, but it would be better if it was lighter
