Seems well built and has a nice low profile. Nice long cable for installation options.

I received the GMRS radio as a gift but didn't want to use the antenna that came with the kit - I was looking for a more permanent solution. That, plus the +3dB gain whip antenna, seemed just right for my Tacoma. The lens hood mounting piece fits well - there's a small gap closer to the center, but I don't see any vibration. I smeared some protective film between the mount and the paint to be on the safe side, as I don't plan on removing the thing any time soon. Pulling a cable through a vehicle is no easy task. The reading I've done has shown that you shouldn't run it through a firewall because it might interfere with other wiring going through it. So I went down, along the frame and up through the grommet behind the rear passenger seat, back under the mat to the dash, through the dash and up to the bracket at the top of the dash. With all of this, I still had an extra foot or two of cable, so I was fine with the length. I was really surprised that I didn't have to extend given the itinerary I took. If you go this route be sure to hide the heat shield as I expect a cable like this to melt. Finally, there is one more thing that I did not understand until the end of my few hours of work. A: The end of the connector (coaxial) is actually very easy to remove and very easy to put back on. This greatly simplifies cable routing. I wish I had figured this out *before* this thing went under the rug and through the dash, but hey, it still worked. :-D

Pros
  • 6 meter cable attached to bracket
Cons
  • Some defects
