Review on WAVLINK USB 3.0 Dual-Bay Hard Drive Docking Station - Supports SATA I/II/III (6Gbps) HDD/SSD - Offline Clone/Backup/UASP - 12TBx2 Capacity by Joseph Swanson

For SSD docking stations look elsewhere

So I bought several of these docks, 3 for myself and 5 for different customers. The HDD docking station works quite well. Built-in cloning also works fine, although you need to ensure that the "true" capacity of the destination disk is equal to or greater than the "true" capacity of the source disk. This is not always easy unless you are very familiar with the different drive models from different manufacturers. Luckily for me, that's not a problem, but your average Revain customer will likely run into some issues. So the biggest problem I had with this Wavlink product is that while it does support UASP, it doesn't fully support it. It seems that the operating system (Win 10 or other) does not report that the inserted drive is an SSD. Since Wavlink does not have drivers for this device, it relies on Windows' built-in UASP support. Windows doesn't recognize the SSD and when you bring up the optimizer tool (in explorer, right click on the drive, select properties, tools tab) it shows up as a hard drive instead of an SSD and so you can't TRIM on a perform SSD. In fact, you can seriously degrade your SSD if you do any real optimization at this point (so DO NOT do it!). Even defragmenting from a CMD window (defrag <disk>: /L /U /V) will tell you it can't TRIM on the SSD. There's no real way to get Windows to recognize it as an SSD. This functionality can only be implemented with proper UASP support on the docking station. NOTE: Your USB chipset and operating system must support UASP in addition to the device (Win 8.1 and higher do this internally, as do all modern motherboards and USB expansion cards in recent years). Finally, for those looking for a TRIM-capable HDD/SSD docking station, I've found at least one that does: DBPOWER USB 3.0 to SATA Dual Bay Docking Station does, although it appears to be larger and not available on Revain is. There seems to be only one slot available, but I don't know if it supports this functionality or not.
