Used to upgrade the SSD used as C drive

Few years ago we have two computers with 256GB Samsung 840 Pro SSDs as C drives for Win 7 Pro SP1 64- Bit systems built. The price of SSDs has come down significantly, so it's time to upgrade to the 1TB Samsung 860 Pro SSDs. We used Samsung's data migration software to "clone" old SSDs to new ones. This tool works on Windows, but it is advisable to close unnecessary processes like an antivirus solution while the copying process is in progress. The old SSD was the C drive for the running system, and the new SSD was in a Transcend StoreJet enclosure - a beautifully designed product that was easy to use. You plug it into a USB 3 port and the program will immediately recognize that it contains the target SSD, ask you a few questions, and then copy the old one to the new one. After that, turn off the computer and swap the SSDs, enter the BIOS and check if the settings are correct, boot into Windows and enjoy. Please note that Samsung software allows you to clone hard drive to SSD. As said above, we need to update two systems. Transcend is made well enough to be reusable. The only downside is the SSD gasket, which is glued. Adhesives don't like being taken apart and reused. I suspect the delimiter just isn't needed for one-time use like disk cloning. I really like this product and was intrigued by the small electronic component that does all the hard work. In parting, I suggest you take your time disassembling the case, inserting a drive (2.5" or SSD, not 3.5") and tightening all the fasteners. No great force is required. The only trick really is making sure everything lines up correctly, and it's not that hard.

Pros
  • Handy thing
Cons
  • So far so good
