Review on Audio Injector Zero Sound Raspberry by Matthew Goozmer

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Small impressive and versatile sound card for Raspberry Pi applications that require audio input

This card was exactly what I was looking for: high quality sound, audio input, small size. While there are many Audio Interface Pi headgear options, very few of them have audio inputs (ADC). In fact, AudioInjector does 4 out of 5 that I know of. The fifth is "HiFiBerry DAC + ADC” which I also own. It costs three times more than AudioInjector Zero and doesn't work any better for me. I also tried AudioInjector "Stereo Soundcard". It appears to be the exact same circuit, but added volume controls on I/O and RCA connectors instead of solder/molex connectors. The sound of both is damn good and offers sample rates up to 96kHz/32bit. I can't say it competes with only $75+ DAC cards, and I personally use the best card for my Pi media server, but it works great for portable systems, music devices, etc. The noise level is higher than I . (about -80 dB with my system). Most of this noise appears to be high frequency digital noise. There can be filters, there can be the fact that when used as a hat it's less than 1cm from the Pi's busy electronics. Another downside that other reviewers have mentioned is that you have to solder your own connector. Yes, it's tedious, but you can choose your headline (male, female, high, low, etc.). This is an advantage for me, although it would be nice for the AudioInjector to at least allow for the ability to pre-install a standard 2x20 jack on the bottom (90% likely use case) so people either can't solder or don't like it nor to use this card.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
