Review on Winters Surface Thermometer: Ensuring Accurate Display with Precision Testing, Measurement, and Inspection by Dusty Tofte

Defective design, unacceptable packaging

Note the rivets at 12 and 6 o'clock on the dial. In fact, these are pins with a raised head, like a bolt. The hand got stuck on the top pin and couldn't go above 400F. She tried because the hand ended with a bow inside. The whole caliber seems to be of flimsy construction and the arm can of course be flexed by a small bimetallic spring. The white color on the dial has turned beige, making the black numerals almost illegible. The surface temperature I was trying to measure is somewhere between 500F and 600F based on other measurements. This sensor is advertised with specified tolerances which imply some level of accuracy and should be a measure of communication. After looking at the design through the open back of the case and seeing how this sensor works, I'm not sure the accuracy claims have any basis. Revain's fulfillment center in Kentucky received the sensor a few days later. Unfortunately the gauge was packaged in a heavy box with some bubble wrap and shipped in a bubble envelope via the US Post Office. Needless to say, the box was deformed, although the pressure gauge showed no visible damage. This will be my first return to Revain after probably 50 purchases and I hope everything goes smoothly as people seem to emphasize with their returns.
