Good pet door for the money but you get what you pay for.

This is not my first favorite door. I spent a lot more on my latest pet door which was easy for me to install and has lasted for many years. When the flexible plastic sunroof on my old door failed, I found that they no longer made a replacement. So when I was shopping for a new pet door, I wanted to buy a brand that had been around for a while and sold replacement door panels at a reasonable price. I found the Pet Safe pet door met my criteria, and it was also reasonably priced. I definitely think I got what I paid for and it's an honest product, but I have a couple of big issues with it. My first issue with the product was that the "struts" are difficult to align when trying to install and match them to the opposing frame. It took a lot of time and was very tiring. My newest (but more expensive) pet door came with a spacer that was molded to the door frame and slipped right into the hole cut in the door and then lined up perfectly with the outer door frame. I also feel that the grommets, which are supposed to be weatherproofing, aren't doing enough to keep moisture out, so I'll be using silicone sealant on the outer frame. Better safe than sorry! My second issue was that the very long and very thin screws (about 1/8-3/16 inch thick) holding the door frames together are plastic while the nuts are metal. Not only are the threads of plastic screws easy to strip, they are also easy to "mis-tighten" when used with metal nuts. I am also very concerned that these very thin screws will break easily. My final issue is that my last pet door had a metal door that could be framed and locked for security or bad weather. The Pet Safe Door has a plastic lid that fits over the inner frame but does not attach, allowing it to be easily removed from the outside. I live in the forest and often have furry forest visitors like possums and raccoons. In my experience, these two creatures are smart enough to watch my dogs use the door and then flip the lid off and walk inside. I am working on securing the door easily but would not recommend this pet door to anyone who would find an unsecured pet door a problem. If you buy a large door, it can allow a person to easily enter your home. To be honest I feel this pet door is expensive and pet door prices can be very high.
