Good and bad for cat doors

My parents bought this door for their house many years ago so that cats could get into the basement as naturally as possible, when I moved in I wanted my cat to have access to their litter box too (which I discreetly placed in a closet in the laundry room). The door was installed well, looks great and works. However, the flap is so dark that my cat is very nervous about going through it. I'm still trying to get him to come to terms with having to go through it himself (and he's not usually a…

Poor lid design for cat doors, railings and steps

I used to have a similar PetSafe door with a sliding lid that worked so well. When replacing the back door, I decided and bought a new pet door. It is designed so the lid can be snapped on from either side depending on which side your pets are on. Unfortunately, my dogs can easily bump into it and bounce off the cover. If you never need to keep your dogs indoors or outdoors, this is for you. BUT, if you expect to ever have to keep your dogs to one side, I suggest you look for a sliding top pet…

Decent - works - not airtight - wish the lid was clear plastic

Now in use - installed and working for 2 months now. Not bad - the magnetic closure doesn't always "snap" in place, and by the time the temp hits 20s and teens I get a pretty good feel for air moving around and through it. Installation was easy, instructions (if needed) are clear and generally good. The screws holding the two halves together are plastic, so be careful not to over-tighten them or they will break. I really want the valve to be clear plastic. Nobody, especially cats, likes to…

NOT RECOMMENDED. Read before you buy.

The size is suitable for a very large dog. Says it can hold dogs up to 200 pounds and our lab is about 90 so there's plenty of room. That's all the good things I can say about this pet door. It's not very strong and after installation we saw several cracks that allowed water to leak out. It was necessary to cover the entire outside of the door with silicone to prevent rainwater from entering. The worst thing is that the lid is completely unusable. It doesn't stay attached to the frame, and even

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Expensive

These dog doors are so expensive it's hard to understand why and which ones are worth the extra money. I took this one because it was cheaper. And you can't say that this one is bad. But I should have gone for a more expensive option with a solid hinged door instead of a mylar sheet. The valve just doesn't fit snugly around the edges. This way the bugs can freely enter the damn house. Of course it would be worth the extra $50 for one that is closed and sealed on all sides. Dan! Another piece of

Absolutely rubbish. Don't buy it.

Do not buy this product. I bought this because I had another PetSafe dog door but it was smaller and now I have a larger dog. I thought this article would be the same as before. Not so. The other was initially made of metal. Except for the nuts, the entire product is made of plastic. Second, the template used to cut the door is the wrong size. This pattern created an oversized hole that can only be fixed with screws on one side - the screws hold absolutely nothing on the other side. Also, the…

Good pet door for the money but you get what you pay for.

This is not my first favorite door. I spent a lot more on my latest pet door which was easy for me to install and has lasted for many years. When the flexible plastic sunroof on my old door failed, I found that they no longer made a replacement. So when I was shopping for a new pet door, I wanted to buy a brand that had been around for a while and sold replacement door panels at a reasonable price. I found the Pet Safe pet door met my criteria, and it was also reasonably priced. I definitely…
