My parents bought this door for their house many years ago so that cats could get into the basement as naturally as possible, when I moved in I wanted my cat to have access to their litter box too (which I discreetly placed in a closet in the laundry room). The door was installed well, looks great and works. However, the flap is so dark that my cat is very nervous about going through it. I'm still trying to get him to come to terms with having to go through it himself (and he's not usually a difficult student). I'm not saying don't buy this product because it works, but I really wish the valve wasn't so black!
