The build quality is excellent. I installed it under my coffee table, tucked away to avoid all the charging cords trailing all over the floor. He's great for that. I've seen at least one review mentioning surge protection features. Any "string filter" that only lists joules/no clamp response time or other ratings is immediately suspect. Think of it more like a power strip than a surge protection system. If you're only looking for moderate protection, get at least a 1500J. If you want real protection for expensive equipment, get a high-end UPS (a good brand is APC). Subtract 1 star for that as it's better to have no protection than bad (you can't put a surge protector on a UPS as it could cause a short circuit so you can't use a good suppression system with that extension cord).
