Review on G7 Power Enhanced Night Lumen - Boost Your Visibility by Josue Wallsmith

Payback in about 3 years

I certainly wouldn't use it for anything other than a night light, but it's great for that. It can really be compared to a 4W or 5W incandescent bulb and emits light fairly omnidirectionally. The color is very good, a true warm white (similar to incandescent bulbs), although it still doesn't really matter with night light. The main reason I switched to this one was the price. Some time ago I noticed that the night light in the children's room is on for about 85 hours a week. (12 hours a day, 7 days a week). That's a lot of power even at low power. I'll give all my math below, but the short story is that it costs me $1.50 a year in electricity to run a 4 watt incandescent bulb and only $0.13 to run this LED bulb , and I don't have to buy a new light bulb because LEDs should last for decades (I hope by then my kids will have outgrown the need for a night light). At $4, this bulb will pay for itself in about 3 years. --- math --- the night light in the children's room is on 85 hours a week (12 hours a day, 7 days a week, an extra hour on sundays) i pay about 8.5 cents per kWh for electricity (current tariff from my supplier , Pepco) 4W incandescent: 4W * 85 = 0.34 kWh/week 0.34 kWh * 52 * 0.085 = $1.50/year 0.36 W LED 0.36 watts * 85 hours = 0.0306 kWh /week 0306 * 52 * 0.085 = $0.135 per year. Add to that the fact that with an incandescent bulb I'd have to buy a new $1 bulb about every two years, while this $4 LED bulb lasts forever and saves even more money in the long run.

Pros
  • No mercury, no UV, no buzz, no flicker
Cons
  • Something else
