Review on Stinger CH38 2 Cap Staple Hammer by John Roberts

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The spike works well see my photos

I've read all the previous reviews complaining about this tool and I'm sure those people just didn't understand its functions. I've used Stinger and I think it works pretty well, but I also think all the bad reviews are from people who just couldn't figure it out. The green discs need to be exactly as pictured in order for them to work, otherwise the mount won't go deep enough to hit the center of the disc, and often the whole thing won't even hold. While you can't look at the photos, you have to press a shutter button to get to the next green disc. Pulling the trigger will push the green disc all the way forward, sometimes releasing it will pull the green disc back out of alignment. So if you just take the 1/2 second it takes before each "hit" to make sure it's in the right place, it will work perfectly almost every time. You can move the disc back and forth easily, but once the disc goes too far you have to move on to the next one (you can't go back). The only other issue I had is that sometimes it doesn't cut cleanly as the gap between the cutting blades is too big, this happened to me maybe 1 time in 10, it was easy to fix by just twisting the stinger and the thin plastic connectors break. For this reason I award 4 stars. The bottom line is that once you understand these disk alignment "tricks" and the cutting blade is a very useful tool, the plastic disk covers the holes made by the brace in Tyvek to keep water out and prevent the Holes get bigger when the tyvek is pulled a little. I would buy it again and recommend it to everyone. You'll lose a few green slices as the blade won't cut like it should, but that's not a big deal considering the convenience, speed, and added protection the tool gives you. It's not perfect, but it's way better than just a stapler or a nail.
