Replaces the same one that was about 10 years old - Love how the closing base pushes out the apple slices and core after cutting - I toss the apple slices in a bowl, the nuclei into another. Without touching blades or fingers in the way! I use this to chop all my apples for applesauce - I wash them then chop them all - Then peel and toss in the slow cooker - Add sugar and cinnamon to taste, turn on low and after a few hours. The best applesauce! And your knuckles/hands will thank you because you didn't have to manually core each apple - I can cook 6 pounds of apples (large full slow cooker) in about half an hour! This tool really shortens my preparation. Time has passed! Not to mention how awesome it is to slice up an apple for a snack!
