Review on πŸ”΄ Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Folio for iPad 5 in Striking Mars Red Orange: A Perfect Blend of Style and Functionality by Rudolph Mceachern

It's a minor thing, Logitech is a cautionary tale

I was planning to give a positive review for this keyboard as I've been using it happily for the past 6 months. This was my second enthusiastic purchase since I bought my iPad in November 2013. I really liked the red and orange case and the responsiveness of the keyboard. But a few days ago, the plastic tab on the iPad power button broke making it impossible to hold my iPad securely. The keyboard still works reasonably well, but it's important to keep my (very expensive) iPad secure. When the hull can't do it anymore, well that's a deal breaker! At the time of purchase, there were relatively few reviews for this particular keyboard/case, and those that did exist were positive, based primarily on Logitech's reputation as a reliable third party. iPad Accessories Supplier. Understandably frustrated that my expensive case was rendered useless by a small piece of plastic, I revisited the reviews below. God, how things have changed! The complaint I kept coming across was the tyranny of the plastic tab over the power button. Some people have said that the pull tab broke, rendering the case unusable after just a few days or weeks. I guess I was lucky that I lasted six months. I was equally concerned about the issues reported by a number of customers when I contacted Logitech customer service about this design flaw. I was in dire need of another keyboard/case for my iPad as I don't want to use it without the case on and I need the keyboard to type. I thought about buying another Logitech, but I didn't dare. And here's why: instead of a plastic latch over the iPad's power button, a cutout seems like a better fit. The power tab is repeatedly pressed, not only to turn the iPad on and off, but also to take screenshots, among other things. The small plastic strap cannot withstand this pressure in the long term without breaking. In my opinion, this is a serious design flaw, so why buy another case with the same design flaw? I would have endured only one viewing angle for a long time if that tab hadn't broken, but looking back I wish I had a choice of viewing angles. I didn't mind the keyboard's power button and turning it on and off, but looking back, I like not having to think about turning the keyboard on and off. For example, Belkin's solution with a keyboard that turns on and off automatically when the keyboard is opened and closed seems more elegant. , I know I could buy another, longer one, but why would I?). However, in hindsight I prefer a longer charging cable to make it easier for me to charge the keyboard when needed. So yes, I could buy another Logitech Ultrathin Folio, but why would I retrospectively reward poor design with more of my hard-earned cash? I know I could try to use the one year warranty as well, but after reading about other customers' issues and evaluating my time I figured it would be best to just go with another brand that doesn't have one Plastic tab and possibly also eliminated some of the other shortcomings that I was no longer willing to put up with. Ironically, a few days ago Logitech announced new folios that will go on sale at some point in the future. Guess what? They're said to have variable viewing angles and aluminum construction (sounds familiar to Belkin keyboard/case owners) and probably some other improvements as well (bet the plastic tab is replaced with something more durable or a cutout). However, I am not willing to wait for these new cases as even a day without a keyboard/case was uncomfortable for my iPad. So I bought another keyboard/case and I'm glad I did. A major design flaw in such a small thing means that Logitech will no longer be my automatic accessory choice for my current iPad or any future iPad. can own. Sometimes that's all too true - you really only get one chance to make a good first impression, and it's the little things that matter the most.
