Review on Xspec 20" Folding City Commuter Bike - Lightweight & Efficient 7-Speed Design For Urban Travel by Gerald Munajj

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Makes my city commute more enjoyable.

I haven't had this bike for long, but I feel that I'm still qualified to comment. I normally am commuting 1-3 miles over some hills and I ordered this bike because of the low price and I liked that it included fenders and a rear rack. It comes mostly assembled and the seller messaged a video that I found helpful. It had it assembled and riding within an hour using an adjustable wrench, a multitool, and a bicycle allen wrench set. I don't think of myself as being very proficient at working on bikes, so I believe anyone could complete the assembly. The seller was quick to answer questions I asked as well.I'm 6'1" and 200lbs and the bike fits me fine. The bike is sturdy enough. Shifting works fine. The main problem I have is the handlebars. I feel like I could bend them fairly easily. They're meant to be raised for a more upright ride but I have had trouble keeping the lever lock tight enough to keep them in place. I was able to get them locked for now, but I wonder how long that will last. The handlebars and the front post are all one piece so it could be difficult to replace.Another thing that bothered me is that the pedals do not match. The right pedal folds and the left does not. This is functionally fine because only the right pedal protrudes when the bike is folded. It still bothers me, so I bought replacement pedals.Overall, I think this bike is fine. Other bikes I was considering were double the price. This is still functional, but I wouldn't expect anyone will fall in love with this bike. It is better than walking, but I wouldn't rely on it to get me very far.Edit.After using this bike more I have really come to enjoy owning it. It still isn't reliable for 20+ mile rides out of town, but for in town this has become my go-to bike. For a city commuter bike, I love it. It still is flawed but in a way that is acceptable given its intended use.

Pros
  • Its compact design also makes it ideal for traveling, camping or commuting by public transit
Cons
  • The bike may not be designed for use in inclement weather conditions, such as snow or heavy rain
