Review on πŸ“± Mount-It! Universal Tablet Wall Mount: Securely Hold Your iPad, Galaxy Tab, Fire, and More with this Kitchen Tablet Wall Mount and Stand (MI-1401) by Shane Jenkins

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works well as an iPad holder

I bought this wall mount to hold my iPad 2 in the workshop. For this purpose it works quite well. The overall construction is solid. Despite the plastic, the mount retains sufficient rigidity. When ordering, I was concerned that using this touch device stand would cause the iPad to move too much during use. I can say it isn't. There are five pivot points on the mount - four on the mount and one ball joint on the TV/iPad mount itself. The two center pivot points use large wing nuts for tightening and are very easy to operate. The connectors closest to the attachment point and the device itself use smaller handles. While not that easy to adjust, I didn't find them annoyingly difficult to tighten. In fact, all four hinges were fairly easy to tighten and held in place well. The TV mount is attached to the articulated arm with a ball socket. These are all plastic parts. The base has slots that allow the ball mount to hold the device in four positions without rotation - up, right, down, left. You can also use a ball mount to avoid using these areas. This gives you the ability to rotate the device 360 degrees. The key point is that this last joint has a fixed grip, but is not a fixed grip or position like other joints. It stands to reason that this connection will also become less grippy with frequent use on the road. The actual clips that hold the device have some issues that prevent it from earning a five-star rating. First, the depth of the clips is fixed, so you can't adjust it. They're about 3/4" deep. My iPad with its Smart Cover fits in well, and while there's extra room, it feels like it'll hold up well. You're going to be out of luck if you try to latch onto something to hold onto thicker stuff. The two lower arms have a fixed radius. They are hinged to maintain the same angle with each other, which is a nice feature. You can't adjust the distance from the center of the mount to the holders if you're using something smaller or larger This is definitely intended for devices in the range of iPad 2. The corner clips can only slightly adjust their angle to their position, again not a big deal given the small size range it is intended for Clamp is height adjustable. The lever is accessible enough behind the bracket to lock the position.Leaving it unlocked will hold the iPad well and make it a little easier to mount the device set and remove. Overall I like this mount and it certainly met my needs of holding an iPad in my workshop. Improvements I'd like to see would be all points of articulation securely locked so precise position can be maintained, and adjustable depth on the three clamping points to better accommodate devices thinner than 3/4 inch.

Cons
  • Not bad, but...
