Pretty Good Color Palette
This set of Richeson Semi-Solid Square Pastels has a pretty good color palette. A few colors almost duplicate each other, but there are enough colors here to make some good paintings. Pastels are very hard and can create beautiful lines. I prefer to use them on sandpaper as the color rendering is much richer. They're a bit more difficult on regular pastel paper, but I've had excellent results there too. The size of the sticks is quite large, and one set should be enough for a very long trip. I like my set of 36 sticks so much that I want a set of 120.
