Review on πŸ”§ Adjustable Steel Valve Spring Compressor - Blue Powder Coated Head-Off Tool by Brian Thuo

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not fixed in "compressed " position

Bought to replace valve springs on some BBC heads. The spring compressor works great, except the handle doesn't "lock" very well in the compressed position. You can tell the cam is trying to "lock" in the compressed position and I've gotten it to stay in place once or twice. Most of the time, the spring tension isn't locked at all (allowing you to operate the valve latches with just one hand) or the lever arm is momentary, causing the valve springs to loosen very quickly without warning. This has happened to me 3 times now and so far I've been lucky my fingers weren't in a position where they would pinch. In addition, the blue powder coating is not very durable. After the second valve spring, there were blue chipped paint on the valve spring retainers. These flakes are clearly not a useful addition to your engine's internal workings. Be sure to remove any flaked paint before reinstalling the heads on the motor. Otherwise, if this spring compressor engaged properly, I would change my rating to 5 stars. Maybe I'll try trading in my special tool to see if I have a bad block (hey, that happens) or if it's a design flaw. I will update this review based on my findings.
