Original HRC fuse for multimeter

Although the title says Amico, I have the SIBA brand. I didn't investigate if they own SIBA or if it was just what the seller sent. In any case, SIBA was what my Ideal 61-481 DMM used to have, so I'm glad to have it back. This is the 6.3mm x 32mm size used in many mid-range multimeters. This is a true HRC (High Rupture Capacity) ceramic igniter that is less likely to shatter when hit by an extremely strong impact than its cheaper glass counterparts. Now that's not exactly what came out of my meter, my ideal came up with a 1A fast shock for the mA range. However, I could only find this 500mA. If you decide to go this route, remember that this is also a fast hit, so even a brief burst of 500mA+ will fry it. Most of my mA readings are under 100mA, so I'm fine with that. Another thing to watch out for is the voltage ratings. Drum fuses can be designed from 60 V. Double check and make sure you buy one that is rated for 1000V. The bottom line is that this fuse serves my purposes without sacrificing safety. Update: I believe this is also the fuse the Fluke 17B uses for mA/ยตA overcurrent protection. In any case, I used my ideal's mA line with a new fuse. And from time to time I opened the envelope. A current surge of more than 500 mA for a few fractions of a second at several different points passed the test. I have to say that "forgiveness" is very welcome and I continue to praise this substitute.

Pros
  • Rated current: 500mA; Dimensions: 6.3 x 32 mm / 0.24" x 1.26" (diameter*length)
Cons
  • I will add later
