Review on SP Bel-Art H-B DURAC Bi-Metallic Min/Max Thermometer: -30 to 60C (-20 to 140F) (B61301-0300) – Accurate Temperature Monitoring by Rashan Jimenez

I ordered this minimax thermometer to find out how hot and cold it is in my yurt and greenhouse as both are sensitive to respond to large temperature changes. I saw a friend with a thermometer very similar to this design and it seemed to be doing its job well so I decided to order a similar looking product. What I particularly like about this thermometer is its analogue design. No batteries to change or circuits to be damaged by water, frost, heat, etc. I actually had an expensive digital thermometer in my greenhouse for the same purpose and it ended up shorting out in less than a year due to high temperatures. Humidity. So this no-frills design appeals to me. From what I can tell, it seems fairly accurate, and resetting it is as easy as turning a dial. When the current temperature bar is moved, it physically moves the minimum/maximum temperature bars and they remain in that position until a new minimum/maximum temperature is reached or reset. In theory, it should keep working forever. My only concern is that it appears to be made out of fairly flimsy, very cheap plastic. Having paid over $20 for a product like this, I expect a little better material quality. Because of this, it's extremely light, but it also seems like it can easily break if you just drop it on the ground. As you can see in the photo, there is a bracket on the back that allows you to hang it on the wall with a nail or screw. It also sits well on a flat surface like I have now. Overall, I would probably recommend this product, but would like to see how it holds up over the long term before making a warmer recommendation. I will also be using it in my greenhouse in very high humidity conditions to see how it holds up and hopefully post an updated review in the future. PRO: analog, easy to adjust, accurate, lightweight, can be hung on the wall. CONS: brittle material.
