Not just for HOLIDAYS. Three or four years ago I discovered how good these solar lights were at repelling bats. We have an open balcony on the third floor. Small but cute. About 10 feet long and about 3 feet deep. However, bats found it ideal for roosting at night while hunting bugs. They didn't stay overnight, but they still left a lot of quano behind. Pooh. Not nice, and as it is a guest room that wants to offer all guests a balcony when full of rodents like garbage that needs cleaning every day. Some people also suspect that over 50% of bats can transmit rabies. It has been proven that rabies can be transmitted by sharing narrow airspace, e.g. B. by keeping small animals in cages near a bat nursery, but without direct contact with bats. I'm not sure if that's true, but the problem is that we didn't want to share the balcony with the bats. I'm all for sharing parts of the garden with mother nature etc. But not on top of each other. So after trying many things including a noisy machine that worked but maybe it didn't bother the pets it bothered the people. I have Menières and I can't stand some sounds, that was one of them. And I've tried a few out-of-the-box attempts, like hanging naphtha or mothballs in a mesh bag, and yes that worked too, but you can't open the windows for fresh air in the evening without a dose to get from it. So yes, I've tried other commercial remedies and homemade remedies that I've heard of. Nothing worked anyway or got rid of the bats. On a whim I had a garland of 200 solar powered garlands. Wrapped it around the railing end to end. It seemed to help, but not completely. There was still bat droppings in one corner. I just leave them in the kit as they come. Choose a steady light mode with no blinking or fading, just a constant on or off. Turn on the device and pull out enough cable to attach the solar panel to the balcony and attach it securely to the balcony so that it is protected from the sun as much as possible. Let it go and now no bats at all. We had the same item failure year round after two full winters. Of course the bats are back, but not as much as the fairy lights that are still burning. Continued three full years there. So I ordered a new set to make sure we were covered. However, the husband managed to open the solar panel and replace the defective battery with a battery of the same type. So now I have two units running again. I watched the first couple of nights and the fairy and these balls were on and the bats tried many times to settle down for the night but left like annoyed. Of course they probably have night roosts or nursery roosts in rock dwellings etc. BUT with no harm to the bats we have solved this problem for good. You only need to service the batteries and/or replace the units when they fail. A cheap and easy pesticide with no side effects for pets, humans or the environment. No harm to bats. I also used it once to clear a small tool shed of skunks trying to get under it. They also don't like light all night. For the skunk, I poured ammonia onto 12-inch knit flaps and threw them under the scales along with the lighting. I used 22 inch tongs to slip both items in and out each morning. I put them on after dark and didn't check to see if there was a skunk inside, we almost knew there was one. Three nights later the skunk moved on. We checked the holes in the fence where the skunk had dug in to get in and fixed that too but only after making sure the skunk was gone as we didn't want a happy skunk running around and throughout the garden was looking for a way out. his entrance was closed after he left, that was for the best of everyone. As for the bats, we bought a house for the bats and tried to set it up just for them, being too careful with directions and heights. Don't you think that at least one bat has stayed in the bat house before? It's on the second floor of our garage away from home. However, several wasps wanted to return home. Of course we live where our neighbors might object to us looking lazy or easily touched by leaving strings of lights that shine all year round. BUT hey hey hey. Nobody gave me this idea and I'm so happy I discovered it. and even better IT WORKS. I have observed a couple of bats struggling for a couple of nights after being laid down and trying to settle down but failed so moved on. After that we didn't see any more bats. They don't have to work year round and they black out in our severe northern winter period but we're not sure if it's important to charge them from the sun or not year round so we'll just do it. Yes, they may or may not last longer if we bring them in during the winter. but I think it makes sense to keep the lights charged all winter, or maybe it's more true that I'm too lazy to unwrap this 200 light garland of magic light that wraps up and down twice plus the rail is. Okay, those ball lights literally don't get me going. All the cord to the remote control and solar panel is enough to reach a sunny spot where I hold it in many different ways. I use cup hooks to hang the lights in the kit as they came right out of the box. In this case I chose one mode in which the light turns on and off, and in the other it turns on and back on. I think maybe it saves battery power to keep half the lights on. All the lights went on and off. In the original kit I only had everything on or flashing. I hate flickers, I don't know why anyone would want one of these to flicker but not on a Christmas tree or indoor wreath. Maybe little kids, I don't want to be a little kid. So update. My lights didn't work for several nights. I was confused. The neighbors have a huge light in their yard and it's at the top of what's called light pollution these days. BUT to be honest we also had FULL MOON. I suspect the light sensor might be a bit overactive on this new set. My old globes stayed on, as did the garlands, only they weren't there. So I wanted to theoretically test it and went out around 10pm and they were on. They've been on each one for about a week since then, so maybe it's a full moon? The neighbors also had no electricity for several nights while they went about their main chores in the yard. I can pray that somehow this never works again. For some reason the neighbors light wasn't bright enough to disturb the bats on our balcony, otherwise I wouldn't have needed to invest in solar lights. Oh, but what a revelation. Someone will invest in it commercially and call it their invention, you bet.
