We now have four cats. A large 5 year old male, only 2 1/2 months old. He had a difficult past life. When we got him he was fickle, biting and clawing at everything in sight, including clawing at two of our leather chairs. (He's getting better and better, but he's still too delicate to clip his claws.) I bought cat double sided tape and this scratching post to try to keep him from damaging our beautiful furniture. He got straight to the point (he's a vertical scratcher) and no longer scratches chairs. He's big and relatively heavy, but this bar is pretty big and strong for his weight and size. Sisal on it is hard-wearing and fits well. The whole post is well made, with a wide and solid wooden base. The gray color also fits well in our living room. I recommend it!
