Review on Dahle Capacity Self Sharpening Automatic Engineered by Nicole Mcleod

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The fence on my Dahle 446 is not quite level! Dahle support helped me to fix this.

When I received my Dahle 446 Premium Roller Trimmer, the first thing I checked after unpacking it was square. Visually it looked great. A simple test is to take a piece of carbon paper, most likely perfectly square in shape, and cut a very thin strip from the end. Just make sure the paper fits snugly against the fence and doesn't move as you cut. Then compare the 2 ends of the tape. If they match, then it's a square. You can then turn the paper over so the opposite side of the paper is pressed against the fence and check again. If the cut wasn't a square, it's very easy to see with this splitter since it's now twice the size. Do this procedure on the left and right fences. If there is a problem, loosen the screws at the bottom of the non-straight end, adjust and tighten the screws. Then check again using the procedure above. My Dahle 446 was great, but only when I was pressing the paper against the part of the fence that is 5"-12" from the blade/cutter bar (see attached photo). I can cut a strip thinner than thread and fit both ends together. PROBLEM: When I pull the paper toward the part of the fence closest to the blade/cut guide, the paper rotates counter-clockwise slightly. This slight twist can move a large piece of paper on the other end 1/8 inch or more! This applies to left and right end pieces! With such an expensive and high-quality trimmer, the emphasis should be absolutely flat. full length and perpendicular to the knife/cutter bar. I also found that the end of the fence furthest from the blade/cutter bar is raised slightly. Next screw is 1 3/4 inch left. Update: I contacted Dahle support and worked with the account manager. She FedEx me both molded tips within two days. I received them, installed them and now the quality of cut is much better with my Dahle 446. The fences at both ends are now consistently flat, flush with the surface, and everything is square!
