Made in China These bags had some kind of glaze when received. I hand washed and rinsed them several times in very hot soapy water, then soaked them in hot soapy water to which I added bleach. This finally got rid of the frosting and made them feel like gauze should feel. A good wash rounded off the work. Since they are small and transparent, this washing took place in a bowl in the kitchen sink. I squeezed rather than twisted the bags during washing and rinsing to keep the threads from getting tangled. Then I laid them one by one on a towel to dry. It didn't last long but I left them outside for another day to ensure there was no moisture left before storage. I've been using them ever since and they work perfectly. But I don't think I would buy them again because I have no idea how they were made or what they were coated with to give them a shiny glaze.
