Review on Optimized Four Monitor Mount - Freestanding Standard Monitor Mounts by Matt Schmick

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good, but be careful with computer accessories and peripherals

I've wanted a 4-monitor setup for a long time. When I saw that Targus could do this with most laptops, I went for it. I used to have 2 monitors: 1 HDMI, the other VGA because that was available on the laptop. For the most part everything was fine. And upgrading from 27 to 32 a year earlier was one I could never shy away from. In any case, I wanted to run 4.32 inch monitors. So I order Targus Quad HDMI, 2 extra monitors and this stand. The stand is made of very durable material. Like super strong steel. However, there is one very important design decision that they made that I really hope they change. Each mount supports 2 monitors and covers both sides of the stand. And there are handy little brackets on each end of the bracket to attach a monitor to. In addition, each of them can be rotated so you can choose between portrait and landscape. I used portrait mode sometimes, but with 4 I didn't feel it was necessary, so I planned on keeping them all landscape. and the first one turned and dropped my monitor on the floor. NOT COOL. I reported the issue and they were great. They quickly sent a replacement for that hand. So while I was forced to wait for her, I decided to just detach that arm and use the other until a replacement came along. THE SAME HAPPENED. Turned around and dropped the monitor on the floor! I reported the problem and again they quickly sent out a replacement. In the meantime, I gathered a good hand from the two good sides of each aching hand. The next hand that came in was fine, so I was ready. The BIG news was how ready and willing Stand Steady is to do whatever it takes to help. It is also good that the monitors survived the falls unscathed. So in the end I have what I need. Unfortunately, there is no way to "tighten" this part to keep it from rotating. This is a design flaw. Do it in such a way that you can force the ends of your arms to be portrait or landscape.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
