Review on Motorola 53865 Headset Swivel Microphone by Alex Jones

Works fine (if you know the secrets)

We were unable to find a headset that would fit our Motorola radios, model RDU4160d. If you buy an "unauthorized" model, the radio's speaker won't turn off when the phones are plugged in, defeating the purpose. These phones are correct and work well if you know two things: 1 . You must INSERT the connector SECURELY. There's a final 1/4 inch to insert, which isn't obvious, and the radio speaker doesn't turn off if you don't. /disable.) 2. VOX setting on RDU4160d is not obvious. If you do NOT want voice activation, you should not use the "OFF" setting (the logical choice). Set VOX to low, medium, or high, turn on the radio with the headset already plugged in, and press the transmit (PTT) button on the radio once. This will disable the VOX function (if you set it to "Off" it will always be in a very sensitive VOX mode). IMPORTANT: Before purchasing a headset, verify the part numbers for your specific Motorola radio! They look interchangeable, but they're not! , only one of our 8 headsets had problems and we replaced it, which is often not very careful with constant use. That's not a huge issue, but Motorola has made it difficult to find the right replacement foam. The correct part number is Motorola REX4648A. This kit costs about $6 and includes speaker and microphone foam. The kit description doesn't mention the 53865 headset, but that's exactly what you need - I checked it out personally yesterday. Revain doesn't offer this particular product, perhaps in part because Motorola's description doesn't specifically mention the headset.
