Our original 1991 Vailant Boiler Flame Sensor, model GA92-140 HSI, finally started giving us problems earlier this year. I removed it and cleaned the exposed area of the tip. with bright tape on the flame, reinstalled and the boiler started working again. Started looking for a replacement flame sensor and soon found I found the exact replacement (for a European boiler that no longer works in the US), the flame sensor doesn't happen! I measured the overall length of the standard flame sensor and went in search of a replacement. I thought this flame sensor would fit, but after shipping from Revain I found that it didn't match the length of the old flame sensor. (the big difference was the measurement from the bracket to the end of the tip, not the overall length) decided to leave it and wait for the boiler to work again, which happened after about 7 months. Replaced the flame sensor and hot surface igniter . simultaneously. The longer flame sensor didn't encounter any obstacles, so I figured everything should be fine. Several sources mentioned cutting the flame sensor to length, but I didn't want to risk breaking it. This White Rogers Flame Detector works great! If you're having trouble with your gas boiler (or stove), take a close look at the flame sensor as it may be causing your problems. Just clean the tip area with tape, reinstall and try again. There is no easy way for the average homeowner to test the flame sensor as most volt/ohm testers do not measure current in milliamps/millivolts.
