Review on πŸ”§ Dorman C660985 Brake Cable - Enhancing Performance and Durability for Effective Brake System Maintenance by Fort Steffen

The cable works, but not for long.

Dorman C660985 Intermediate Parking Brake Cable Fits my 2003 Chevy Suburban. First I attached the front end. The rear end has a tensioner that protrudes 1/4" through the bracket that attaches the two rear parking brake cables. That was enough to turn the nut. The nut and locknut were about halfway through the threads. The Dorman cable (plastic jacketed) has an OD of 3.7mm and OEM GM cable (plastic jacketed) has an OD of 4mm OEM cable has a strong and tightly attached vinyl jacket with an OD of 7mm, around to resist abrasion. The Dorman cable has a free floating vinyl jacket which is very thin, about 0.25mm.The OEM jacket has protected the cable very well for 17 years. The cable corroded and broke near the crushed fitting on the front End of the cable. Dorman's sleeve doesn't protect for long; it will most likely slip out of where you placed it and the cable will wear out immediately. I've tried zip tying it on the frame post to keep it straight (see photo). The front of the cable rubs against the frame without a feedthrough. So I removed the rust, applied a silicone patch and lubricated it to prolong the life of the cable (see photos with and without the silicone patch). In general, cables work, but they are not designed to last forever. Without my modifications I would give him two years to live. With my mods it can be double.
