Not bad for the money

Well P&S will hit but no DSLR. That was to be expected and I knew I would get it even before I bought the XG-1. I bought this camera to photograph nature while cycling as I need a decent zoom, by the way the Sony LCSU11 body fits the XG-1 perfectly. I use a 52mm UV filter to protect the lens. I did a lot of test shots and found the handheld stabilization to be almost useless at full zoom, I got a lot of blur. On a tripod in daylight I get good shots at full zoom, but Multi AF can capture a different subject, I recommend using One-Shot AF. I also got good macro shots using the single-frame autofocus. Haven't tried full zoom night shots yet, but don't expect much. I just wish it had an IR (Pentax's advert on their store site is wrong, it says they have an IR (recommended accessory)), but the Ricoh site is correct. IR helps reduce blur compared to manual triggering. I've noticed that if you don't zoom out too much, say 300mm to 500mm, the images have a good IQ handheld at both aperture setting and full auto, only the ones I've tried. Overall I'm happy with what I'll be using it for, had high hopes for full zoom when shooting handheld but around 500mm is fine. Your problems. Like the Pentax XG-1. The price I was willing to pay was the deciding factor. All in all I recommend it. You can find regular batteries and chargers for this camera at a good price. Update: I photographed the moon at full zoom and am very happy with it. I had to play around with the shutter speed to get what I wanted, but overall not bad.
