Exactly as advertised. I was able to use it to extend (rather than just duplicate) my desktop screen from my Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon to my ASUS HDMI monitor. I have two of these monitors, but my laptop only has one HDMI port, so I used this adapter to connect the HDMI cable from the second monitor to one of the laptop's USB-C ports. It worked right away without any problems. I liked that there was a cable between the USB-C end and the HDMI end that was about 2-3 inches long; Some adapters just plug it in directly, and that can cause problems accessing other laptop ports besides USB-C. The adapter gives me the space I need in this case. Would I buy again? Yes. Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes. Did I receive promotional credit for this product? no
