Review on MSI GS66 Stealth Gaming Laptop by Ricardo Fast

THE BEAST! Regular laptops

This is my second MSI laptop. I know people have had screen and hinge issues before, but I've also heard that MSI's customer service department is very good at fixing these issues. Luckily I haven't had these problems yet. My old MSI GS63 STEALTH lasted me 3.5 years, in fact it still works but can't keep up with the latest games (GTX 1050) so I decided to buy it as an upgrade. My main requirement was that my new laptop should have a metal body (because I have to travel a lot for work and I want the laptop to be able to take a few bumps here and there), a fast screen (it's 300Hz). ), a processor and graphics card that will last more than 3 years (11th will get an i9, RXT 3080) and the possibility of upgrading parts in the future (the RAM is upgradeable, although it comes with 32 GB and it has a there is an empty M2 slot ). This laptop fills the bill. The only thing I miss from the old laptop is a full-fledged German, but I got used to it in a week. Yes, and there are no front panel LED indicators. That way you don't really know if your laptop is on or sleeping, or if your battery is charging (it gives the laptop a very professional look, but I still miss it). First thing I did was reinstall Windows (it comes with a Pro license). I reinstalled all drivers, very selectively choosing the MSI applications I needed (only MSI Center, TrueColor and MSI Afterburner I needed). Google is taking steps to force the laptop to only use the onboard Intel graphics when not gaming (VERY IMPORTANT - the power indicator should be white, orange means the Nvidia card is in use and is draining more battery). I also used MSI Center to set the max battery to 60% to extend battery life (you can always change it if you want, I change it to 100% when I'm on the road). Specifications are very strong! This is as it should be since I paid $3199.99 (now I'm seeing $3599.99). I was hoping for a higher resolution display (I read there was a 1440p option but it was never available on Revain). Thermal performance is excellent, I've pushed the laptop to its limits a few times and haven't noticed any throttling. In terms of gaming, it's a beast! I've played a few games so far, all on maximum settings. No crashes, no frame drops, works non-stop. All in all, if you can justify spending that amount, you want a very high quality product with crazy specs, and you want your device to last a few years, which is exactly what you want (maybe not overpriced right now).

Pros
  • Laptops
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
